SAFE HANDLING OF FRUIT
Providing consumers with safe, wholesome fruits is the first priority of Holtzinger Fruit Company. Store produce managers and consumers also play an important role in safe handling and storage of fruit.
At the store:
- Look for fresh-looking fruit free of bruises
- Be gentle when transporting your fruit from the store to home
- Store unwashed apples in the coldest part of your refrigerator
- Be sure your apples are not stored with strong-smelling foods such as onions or garlic and potatoes. Apples can easily take on these orders and potatoes release a gas as they age which can cause apples to spoil.
