Northwest
sweet cherries are world renowned for their flavor and firm
texture. Holtzinger Fruit Company has teamed
up with the Oregon Cherry Growers Cooperative and Snokist
Growers to make the most of the differences in crop peaks
for Washington and Oregon cherries. Now we can provide customers
with a steady supply of quality, hand-picked fruit for weeks
longer.
Sounds simple enough, but cherries
aren’t the easiest crop to grow. Extremely delicate,
cherries are hypersensitive to frost and rain. They must be
handled carefully during packing and harvest, and can’t
be easily stored. So, once harvesting begins, processing must
be done efficiently. We quickly hydro-cool our cherries, then
gently pack them for shipment to destinations around the U.S.
and abroad.
Our varieties include:
• Chelan
• Tieton
• Bing
• Lamberts
• Skeena
• Sweetheart
• Lapin
• Rainier
The Rainier variety of cherries
has become an important alternative to sweet, dark cherries
most often associated with the summer crop. Right around the
fourth of July, our growers begin harvesting the beautiful
yellow-gold and blush cherries from select growers. We have
been one of the pioneers at offering this variety to our best
customers. We are now the second largest supplier of Rainiers
and we plan to continue to increase our capacity steadily
as retailers continue to demand additional supply. Rainiers
are sweet, juicy and a real treat.
